An eastern hemlock - red oak - American beech forest surrounds the cliff. The rock is located on top of a bend in the North Fork of the Hughs River. To the E ca. 200m is the Hughs River Dam. The surrounding park is mostly forested with tulip poplar - sugar maple - basswood on the cool N slopes and white pine - white oak and successional white pine making up the conifer signatures on the drier aspects. Several small patches of Sycamore / yellow ironweed occur along the river. Much of the forests have high cover by Microstegium vimneum and no s1-s2 regeneration.;Acidic sandstone cliff with dominance by blue and green dust lichens. Much of the rock is shaded by overhanging Tsuga canadensis - Quercus rubra - Fagus grandifolia forest, with only a small percentage of the rock poking out of the canopy. Thus obscuring the rock on the SAMB2003 aerial photos. The area has a well used trail leading to the cliff and at least 1 bolted climbing route. Heavy deer sign observed in the forest around the cliff. Cliff characteristics; height 10 m, 40% ledges, 60% ledges.
